Race for Life 2015

Hi Everyone

So for the 3rd year I have once again run the race for life 5k on the Epsom Downs.

I love this race because it's alot of strong women coming together for the same cause, to help raise money for Cancer Research.

I didn't do any form of training this year which was very foolish. It was tough! I felt like I struggled more because my stamina was less so quote me on this...... "I will train for next years!"

Anyway back to the race.

The staff organising the race are lovely and there are alot of tents where you can donate clothes, DVD's, CD's etc and food tents. Toby took full advantage of the Pick and Mix! Also a lovely man who was selling fake pink gerbera flowers which Toby's lovely niece and nephew were using as wands on me after the race :)

Now back to the people in the race. They're all women and children (and a few dogs). I can't get over the spirit that everyone had and how together we were. I walked up there on my own for a bit of a warm up and was unable to pin my back sign on. Unlike some places where no one would give you the time of day, I asked a lady and she had no hesitation. I also had a chat with a lady who is now in her 6th year of remission from breast cancer and told me the first time she did it she was still in treatment and had no hair. It's those type of people in the world which give people like me who have petty problems which we all have and turn mountains into mole hills a bit of humility.

The whole theme for this years race was the PINK ARMY. Great Idea. We're all soldiers in this fight so fantastic marketing Race For Life!!!

There was a warm up just before and they loaded up a T-shirt canon and fired them into the crowd. So we were all pumped up and ready to go.

I went to the starting line, turned on the radio on my phone, ear phones in and past the starting line. Now Epsom Downs is hilly! I see some races they do which are in flat parks, I'm envious of those races. But no matter the terrain I did it. I ran (and walked at some points) the whole course and came to the end puffing, panting and sweaty.

I was one of the lucky ones with my name announced too :P

After you pass the finish line you walk through the barriers and they hand you your medal, a bottle of water and a brioche. I just kept stubling my way through until I saw Toby and his sister. I literally lay on the ground and munched away on the brioche to get some sugar into my body and sipped on my water. Today the medal was like dog tags for the whole pink army theme. Cool huh!

I'm proud that I pushed myself as much as I did because on quite alot of occasions this year I thought "screw it I'll walk" but I just kept on thinking of the people I wrote on the back of my T-shirt. Their struggle I witnessed..... and thought don't be so silly jus keep going! I ran this for them. 3 of the strongest men I've ever had in my life.

I can't wait to sign up for next year and continue my medal collection and to raise money for such a great cause.

A final thanks to my amazing family and friends who donated and together we raised a total of £112!

Mybbs xx
